    Hi Christine and Jan

I know its been a while since you lived in Manchester, but I cant find in your source list anything about the replacements to the small window/ toplights in the bedrooms. I thought the simple red tulip motive was lovely, and just added a bit of colour without imposing too much. Can you remember where they came from at all? Im restoring an Edwardian house in Sheffield. Its got rather nasty replacement windows and at the moment its very dark brown – everywhere… Gotta go, gotta get some light airy touches working in here.
    Regards
    Alex

Always happy to help if we can, Alex! We had the stained glass made by a local tradesman. Our neighbours were kind enough to let us borrow one of their original windows and we had a copy made as that’s what would have originally been in the house. The company we bought the windows off then had the stained glass encapsulated so it would be double glazed. I know that the guy that did our stained glass retired not long after doing our windows, so I’m afraid that won’t be much help. I’d recommend speaking to the company that you’re using to do your windows and seeing if they have any stained glass specialists that make the glass for them. We used a different company for the stained glass in our front door called Starlight Stained Glass. We were really happy with the work they did, too. Hope that helps a bit. Good luck with your windows!

Can I ask what finish is on your woodwork please in living room ? Thanks xx

It’s just white wood paint in an eggshell finish. We found that this particular one that we used turned slightly yellow over time which is why we don’t recommend it. The paint we now use for all of our woodwork (skirting boards, doorframes, etc.) is Farrow & Ball white floor paint. It’s super hard wearing and easy to work with.

Well done on all the amazing things you have done with all your projects. The appartment is looking great.
I have to ask, cause they pop up everywhere, and I have tried to see (on older posts) if you mentioned where they were from…where did you get the incredical Son of Man and Freida Kahlo sculptures?

Thank you for all your inspiration! Charlotte

Thank you so much for your kind comment, Charlotte! I didn’t realise our little sculptures pop up so much – they do tend to wander around the house though ;)
They’re Kokeshi dolls by the super talented Becky at Sketch Inc. There are loads of different ones to choose from. We bought ours a few years ago from her online shop which you can find here: https://sketchinc.bigcartel.com/. She has a lovely Insta feed, too! It’s @sketchinc.

Hi! I love so much about your home–the couch in your living room, the stairs are truly gorgeous now, and those bedrooms are so much more inviting than before–who could live like that?! Anyhow, I’m wondering about the source of the chandelier in the living room in the Edwardian house. Do you recall where you got it? Thanks!

Thank you so much for your kind comment, Michelle! We bought the chandelier a long time ago and I don’t think it’s available anymore. It’s called coffee bean pendant and we bought it at Dwell. Good luck!

    Hi Guys,

I loved your new place in Berlin, and the standing mirror in the dressing room with wheels. Where did you get that from , I definitely need a mirror in my new flat :-)

    Best,
    Keith

I’m sorry to say that I have no idea where the mirror on wheels is from. It was a gift and we’ve had it for over 12 years. If you google “mirror on wheels” you’ll find lots of similar ones though.
Sorry I can’t be more help.

    Hi Guys

Love the house, we are half way through our little project in sunny Torquay. We are having the same problems with our hallway as you did with goey paint. The whole hallway was painted in a very bright banana yellow and I do mean everything, anyway thats all gone and I love the panelling up your stairs so could you tell me where you got it from please.
Many thanks and thanks for all the tips.

Banana yellow?! That sounds so bad that it’s could almost be stylish again ;)
I assume you mean the panelling that we attached up the side of the staircase. We shared a post about how we added it here. It’s just decorative timber panelling that we cut to size and glued to the wall. We always used to buy our timber at a local store (this is the one). The quality is usually better than at a DIY store so I’d recommend you find a timber merchant near you.
Hope that helps & good luck with your project!

Hi there. I’ve just come across your pages whilst looking for info on how to sand floorboards. The info you’ve provided is really helpful. Your house looks fantastic!

Amongst many other things I really liked the pendant light in your hallway. You say it’s self-made. What did you make it out of? Is there a website or something you could point me in the direction of showing how to create one.?

    Thanks in advance.

Hello, Can you advise who fitted your fireplace? Just bought a Victorian semi in Prestwich and would prefer a recommendation if possible. Looking for something very similar although to match or contrast with a walnut floor. Your advice would be appreciated. Love the house and we’ll done – I know how hard it is!

We’re always happy to recommend tradespeople that we were happy with. This is who installed our fireplace in the living room. For our log burner in the dining room we used another company that we weren’t overly happy with. If you’d still like to have the details just let me know and I’ll email them over to you.
Good luck with your new home!

We call it Little House On The Corner Blue ;). It has a rather boring real name – it’s RAL 5008 (we had it mixed at Dulux).

    Hi there,

We are about to undertake a similar project on our front door and was wondering who you used for the stain glass and repairs as love the quality of the overall finish. Cheers!

Thanks for the compliment Danielle! The stained glass in our front door is all still original (although it has been repaired). The company we used for the repairs (they had to completely rebuild the panel in the door) is Starlight Stained Glass.
      Hope that helps!

Your hall and stairs were almost identical to ours; green carpet, boarded up etc. We’re also trying to achieve the same result as you however most of our spindles will require remediation as well as stripping and repainting so thinking of just replacing. As ours are basically the same as yours, where did you get them from?

Glad we’re not the only ones that had to content with an ugly hallway – still don’t get why people would board up their stairs!
We completely stripped and sanded our whole staircase including the spindles, before staining/repainting everything. It took a long time, but was definitely worth the effort!
We wrote a few posts about the process – you can find the completed staircase reveal post here. It includes links to all previous posts about the staircase that we shared.
Hope that’s some help – good luck with your hallway!

Thanks Robert! We made the zig-zag board thing – it’s just some nails in the wall with some rope wrapped around it. You can find more details on it here.

Hi, Love what you have done with your place really inspirational. We have just moved into an Edwardian 4 bed by the sea and you have given me hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I would love to know where you got your radiators from.

Thank you so much, Kate! I assume you mean the radiator in the hallway (the others are just standard ones). It’s called Acova and it’s available from a few different places. We picked up ours at B&Q (I vaguely remember it being on offer).

    Hi guys.

Nice job on the house so far – good luck with the rest of it. I lived in a similar property on Chorlton for a couple of years – houses in Manchester have really good room proportions – unlike my London terrace. Quick question; What did you use to draw the floor plans? Thanks

Thanks Damian! We had a friend draw the planns with some professional architecture software, but there are loads of programmes available online where you can draw floorplans for free.

    Hi,
I really love what you’ve done with your house. It’s given me lots of inspiration. I was just wondering who you used to build the cabinets/cupboards and shelves on either side of your fireplace in the living room? I would like something similar.

    Thanks again

Thanks Victoria! We ended up having two people build the cabinets – the first guy was awful and we had to get a second joiner to replace and repair what he’d done.
