We really want to create a stylish and super inviting space for our guests but we also have a very limited budget which is why we’re having to get creative.
And, there’s no better way to achieve a quick transformation than with paint. So that’s what we did and we now have a “new” DIY faux wrought iron bed!

Isn’t it amazing what a bit of paint can do?! Especially considering the bed used to look like this.

Yep, no wonder we’re so pleased with how it turned out!
The bed obviously isn’t wrought iron but the matt black paint is so much better than the patchy, scratched and badly spray painted finish that the bed had before. In fact, it was so bad that we even included the bed in our recent roundup of DIY fails! Ups!
Now, after our DIY faux wrought iron bed transformation, it looks so much more stylish and the matt finish of the paint really makes it look much more high quality, too.

I always feel that calling painting something is a bit of a DIY cheat but painting is one of my favourite things to do and it’s definitely the easiest way to transform something that otherwise may not fit with your home anymore.
If you’re wondering how to paint a metal bed frame, it really couldn’t be easier!
To ensure an even coverage I painted the bed twice with the help of our favourite paintbrush and this is the matt black metal paint and each coat probably took me about an hour to do. I didn’t even bother taking the bed to pieces before painting either! Such a rebel, I know! ;)

So far, the paint has turned out to be really durable and I already have my eye on a few other things that may end up being painted black, too!
In the long run, I would love a new bed but painting our existing bed frame has turned out so well that we’ll definitely be keeping this one for the foreseeable future.

I can’t tell you how happy I am that this room is finally starting to take shape.
We already shared a mood board for the guest bedroom and overall that’s still the look we’re aiming for – although I’ve changed my mind more than a few times.
After way too much deliberation, we’ve taken the plunge and have ordered an armchair (we’ve decided on this one from Made) which is due to be delivered next week. Best of all, we finally have dates for the electrician who will be making a few improvements, too!

Just ignore the rug that’s still squashed under the bed and the tubs of paint next to the wardrobe – it’s obviously still a work in progress.
I know that keeping motivated when renovating your home can be tough but seeing things come together makes all of the stress and hard work worth it!
What’s your favourite kind of DIY project? Do you find paint as irresistible as I do? (I probably need to get out more!) What are your must-have items when you stay in an Airbnb, guest house or hotel?

This may be too late to help but re your idea of a memory foam mattress, I’d suggest you try a memory foam topper first and stick with it for 6 months. I thought this would be an ideal mattress for me re my disabilities.
Unfortunately they hold your body heat and it was like sleeping in a sauna! I have my windows open year round, and no heating in my bedroom, low tog duvet and I regularly woke to a soaking wet bed (sweat) since changing to a regular mattress no problem.
Great bed refurb!

That’s exactly what I was concerned about, too, Lucy! It’s ultimately why we also decided against one. We actually have a new mattress on our bed and love it. (We shared a review of it here) Isn’t it amazing how much difference a good mattress can make?!
