Our Christmas Card 2013

  • Facebook
  • Twitter

By now, hopefully all of our friends and family should have received their 2013 Christmas card, so we can finally share our design for this year with you, too!

For the past 7 years we have made our Christmas cards ourselves and every year the theme revolves around a tree. Last year we hand stitched each card.

Christmas Tree Card

Since first making cards, the numbers have increased from just a few to around 50 a year. So this year in an attempt to streamline production, we had a go at some lino cutting and printing.

Lino Printing

Carving the template obviously took a while, but the printing was pretty straight forward – although I did find it really difficult to achieve an even print. Too much ink and the detail was lost – too little and the print turned out patchy.

Lino Printed Christmas Card

None of the 50ish cards that I printed are perfect, but I guess that’s part of the handmade charm – at least that’s what I tell myself.

Do you send Christmas cards to friends and family? If so, do you make your own? Have you ever tried lino printing and do you have any tips in achieving an even print?

Glad you like it, Kerryn! Maybe next year we can give it to you instead of posting it!

    It is beautiful! Well done.
I send out photographs for christmas cards, sometimes my kids, sometimes something christmassy.
Never heard of lino printing, it looks really cool. I’m having a hard time carving out a small square a piece of wood…. your’s is so intricate.

Thanks Sara! I love personalised Christmas cards! I’m thinking we’ll send out a photo card next year, too. I already have an idea that I can’t wait to try.
The lino printing was fun and it’s definitely something I’m going to try again! It’s also sooo much easier than carving wood as the mat is fairly soft.
