If you follow us on Facebook or Instagram, you’ll already know that instead of stuffing our faces with what usually feels like a million chocolate Easter eggs, this year we decided to treat ourselves to a holiday in Cambodia instead! And it was AMAZING!
We ate way too much delicious Khmer food, tried lots of new things like lotus fruit, milk fruit & banana flowers and drank a few too many Angkor beers and Passion Fruit Margaritas (my new favourite cocktail).
For the first part of our trip we stayed in Phnom Penh and visited the Killing Fields as well as the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. It was of course a very sobering and sad experience, but we’re glad we visited it. Reading the descriptions of survivors of the Khmer Rouge was hard to say the least and it’s truly unthinkable how such cruelty could happen.
After just two nights in Phnom Penh we took a bus down to the coast before getting a speed boat over to a small island called Koh Rong Samloem. We wanted a place to relax and completely wind down and we couldn’t have found a more perfect spot to do so. It was magical. White sandy beached, hardly anyone around, snorkeling, diving and absolutely no wi-fi on the whole island!
After spending 5 nights in this paradise, we hopped on plane up to Siem Reap. It’s such an amazing city and we loved it! The temples, the markets, the food, the people and of course the tuk-tuk rides.
We’ve been lucky enough to travel to a few countries in Southeast Asia and out of all cities we’ve seen so far, this was our favourite.
Now it’s back to reality. Our holiday already seems a long time ago, especially as we yet again spent pretty much the whole weekend in the cellar! But on a more positive note, we’ve almost finished painting it! We can’t wait to share the results later this week!
Have you ever visited Southeast Asia or Cambodia? Do you love to travel, too? Do you also end up coming back from holiday with a to-do list that somehow seems longer than when you left?
