Last week we told you about our newest big project – rebuilding our dilapidated garden wall.
Progress is slow. A few of the bricks are easy – but most of them complete pain to remove. The lower the wall gets, the more difficult it is to work and my poor back is starting to really ache from bending over.
When we first started working on our Edwardian garden wall, we set ourselves the target of taking down and cleaning 80 bricks a day – the amount we’re actually managing to do is more like about 40 a day.
As we already mentioned, we’re not rebuilding the wall ourselves, we’re just cleaning and stacking the bricks ready for our builder.
The lower the wall gets, the worse the rest of the garden looks. Except for the neat as the little brick stacks everywhere is a complete mess!
There is dirt, dust and rubble everywhere.
We’ve only taken down about half of the wall, but there are already two huge piles of broken bricks and, not being able to control ourselves we’ve started another garden project!
Here’s a bit of a preview.
Of course we’ll be sharing more details with you soon, but basically our whole garden now resembles a really messy building site.
Are you planning any changes to your garden this year? Do you always finish your projects before starting new ones, or are you like us and just can’t help starting new projects all over the place without finishing any of them?

Thats a huge undertaking! Taking it down yourself helps with the cost? I love red brick houses and brick fences – we don’t have much of that where I currently live. (And yeah, I totally jump around to different projects, takes a long time to finish one!)

Hi Sara, yep it seems to be taking for ever! Taking the wall down ourselves should save a lot! of money. We’ll go through the project costs and savings when we’ve finished and the wall is back up again.
I’m so relieved that we’re not the only ones with unfinished projects dotted around the house! I worked on 7 different ones today… ;-)

What a “pretty” mess! What you have planned will be wonderful! And you’ll look back and say “Yes, it was worth it!”
Christine says
Well, we’ll see. Luckily I’ve always been fairly good at visioning things so I can kind of see past it. The messier it gets the harder it gets though!

The mess is a necessary evil I guess when renovating. I’m about to get the drywalls in the kitchen/dining-room removed, inuslated and redone next week… Just imagining the dust everywhere makes me sick!
Christine says
You’d think we’d be used to the mess by now! I can’t wait to see your room, I’m sure all of the dust will be worth it!
