Although we’ve completed most of the major building and renovating work in our living room (you can read more about what we’ve done so far here and here and here), we still feel like the room is a long way off what we’d like it to look and feel like.
In case you hadn’t already noticed, it all feels a bit flat. It’s all a bit too coordinated, smooth and really quite bland. The mishmash of furniture really doesn’t help either. Okay, okay. Yep, it’s a huge improvement on what it was like when we moved in:
And this is the same room now:
It’s all just a bit boring.
We are really happy with what we have achieved so far, we love the gray walls with the contrasting white woodwork, we love the sanded and varnished wooden floor and, especially around this time of year, we love our original cast iron fireplace which is definitely the focal point of the room and more importantly, keeps us nice and warm. See, it’s not all bad, there’s lots of love to go round.
We recently added the new living room rug (you can read about it here) which really adds texture and movement, but, it’s also gray – anyone noticing a trend here?
It’s all starting to come together, but we feel that the room needs livening up. Our colourful blue and yellow art behind the sofa is really the only colour the room has at the moment. We already added the yellow throw a few weeks ago, but let me now officially welcome our new introductions to the room – the teal coloured cushions.
We’d still like some more items to introduce some pattern and some more colour, but we are (very) slowly getting there. The texture of the cushion and the vibrant yellow throw already go a long way towards livening up this space. It’s amazing what a difference a splash of colour can make.
Let us know your decorating and accessorizing suggestions! Do you think the yellow and blue colours work?
