Experiencing the pressure of the Staircase DIY duel, this weekend was pretty much devoted to trying to finish – or at least get started – on our staircase restoration project. We already told you about stripping and sanding our staircase here, staining, painting and varnishing here, and painting our paneling here.
Admittedly our restoration progress has come to a complete stand still. It’s really difficult to stay motivated, especially when our hallway has no heating and therefore is absolutely freezing (it’s snowing outside). It’s just too cold to work there. If I’m not first in the DIY challenge – that’s my excuse!
Before this weekend, we were already well underway with painting everything, but had started rushing and painted over areas that weren’t properly sanded. From a distance it doesn’t look too bad, but after spending a ridiculous amount of hours on the staircase so far, it would be a shame to not finish it properly.
So, after spending most of the weekend sanding, the staircase doesn’t actually look much different. Uff.
It isn’t looking very promising regarding my DIY duel is it? There are countless areas that still need sorting it will take us a while to get them all finished.
You can see how everyone else it getting on here:

At least we’re not the only ones tackling this mammoth task!
Are you also restoring your staircase? Or have you ever started a project that seems to go on for ever and will never be finished?

We’ve got a lovely staircase wrapped in thick carpet and paint, but under the layers is beauty, I am certain of it! Thanks for your inspiring posts, you guys are great! I’ve followed your blog for a while, long before we even got our own house. Last September we bought a similar one to yours and we love getting stuck in DIYing. I think your blog has taught me to try everything doing it ourselves once, or twice, or trice, before getting the professionals in. And it works!! Elbow grease is becoming our middle names :-) Thanks for the advice and motivation – keep going :-)

Thank you so much for your kind comment, Maria! It’s comments like yours that keep us motivated to keep sharing our renovation adventures. I can’t even begin to tell you how happy it makes me when we find out that sharing our experiences is actually helping someone!
The biggest thing we’ve learned is definitely that you can do more than you think, so it’s great to know that other people are having similar experiences. Good look with all of your DIYing!

Sometimes it can be so discouraging. But when I see what you’ve already achieved, I know there’s nothing you can’t do. My staircase really needs some TLC, but it’ll have to wait!
