Spice Up Your Life

Don’t worry, I’ve not turned into a Spice Girl and lucky for you, you can’t hear me singing either!

We aren’t great cooks, but you know what it’s like, you try a recipe, buy five spices that you need and then months later, try another recipe and buy the same spices again because you forgot about the ones you had hidden somewhere at the back of your cupboard. This is what our collection of spices used to look like.

Spice Jars

We used to have a load of different spice jars and packets all squashed into our small cupboard which was overflowing. Having unsuccessfully searched for a spice rack for a while, we eventually we found these small magnetic jars.

Spice Jar Organization

They are the perfect size for our herbs and spices and have a magnet stuck to the bottom of them. When we only had a few, we used to keep them stuck to the side of the fridge, but as our collection has grown so much, we had to come up with a more practical solution. Eventually we found a magnetic board at Ikea that was perfect. It was just the right size for the free space on our new kitchen wall.

Spice Jars

It’s nice to be able to have all spices within easy reach and in one place. We purposely don’t have labels on the front of the jars because we like the way that we can see the content through the glass. Having said that, we have stuck a small sticker on the bottom just to make sure we don’t get the contents mixed up. Accidentally switching cayenne pepper with cinnamon would probably not be a good idea!

Magnetic Spice Jar

The containers are also good, as we can always see which ingredients are running low.

We love our new spice board, it’s just a shame about the rest of the kitchen! We can’t wait to renew it, and will of course keep you updated on our progress.

Hi Beth, If you’re referring to the black board – it’s from Ikea. We bought the magnetic jars ages ago – these are the magnetic spice jars we have.
      Hope that’s some help!
