We’ve recently been sharing a load of projects we’ve been doing in order to keep a bit warmer this winter. We’ve already insulated the gap between our floors and skirting boards (for the most part anyway) and we’ve almost finished removing our cellar ceiling & insulating it.
We’re trying our best to keep the house warm this winter, but there’s obviously not much point in insulating our home from top to bottom if we can’t heat it properly. So, in addition to all of our insulating and draught proofing attempts, we’re finally sorting some of our plumbing and heating issues. Yep, just four short winters after moving in, we’re finally hoping to not spend our days and nights shivering from the cold.
As so often around here, we’re doing things in phases and the first one has just been completed! Remember our guest bedroom makeover?
Yep, we’re still not finished! As usual everything took a bit longer than expected and in the end we had to put the room back together again because we had guests arriving!
We’ll now it’s in pieces again and the horrible and quite frankly pretty useless radiator (that wasn’t even attached to the wall!) has gone from this
What an improvement! And now it’s a radiator that’s large enough to heat the room! As you can see, we’ve also stripped away the old paint on the skirting board that we couldn’t reach until now. Like the wall around the radiator, it just needs a few coats of paint and will finally be done, too.
Last week, when we shared the chaos we’re living in, we mentioned that our disastrous fourth bedroom which we use to store all kinds of junk has been cleared, too – well now you know why. We have a shiny new radiator there, too!
But the bedrooms aren’t the only rooms where we have a new radiators! For the first time since living here, we even have a radiator in the hallway!
As always when we have something new installed or finishing a project, it really shows up the long list of things that still need doing. In this case our skirting board and dado rails obviously need sorting.
There are only a few things left to sort in our guest bedroom and we’d better get a move on, as Jan’s parents are coming to visit us in just two weeks! I’m pretty sure they’d appreciate a bed to sleep in!
