We have some great news to share with you all – Our planning application for our loft conversion has been approved! We told you about our ideas and plans for the loft earlier this year (you can read more about it here) and we are so happy that we finally have the permission to start the project.
Strictly speaking, what we are planning falls within our permitted development rights, so we didn’t have to go through the full planning process, but the work involved necessary for the permitted development application is pretty much the same as for a full planning application. Even the time it takes for the approval to come through is the same!
Here are some of our drawings to remind you of what we are planning. The new staircase will be installed over the existing staircase to the first floor. We will have a new bedroom with en-suite bathroom and more importantly a walk in wardrobe!
I can’t wait! Just don’t tell Jan that I’ll need loads more shoes and clothes to fill it!
The new dormer where the bathroom and wardrobe will be is fairly large, but we have tried to keep it as small and set back as possible so that it doesn’t impact the side view of the house too much. It will be covered in the same slate tiles as the roof and will hopefully blend into it.
In the section you can see just how much extra space the dormer will give us. You can never have enough storage, so we are planning to install cupboards into the eaves under the Velux windows.
We still have to submit drawings for building regulations approval, so fingers crossed that that also runs smoothly. We hope to start with the actual building work around February/March 2013.
We promise to keep you all updated as usual. I’m sure we’ll have lots of adventures to share with you. Are you planning any building work? Do you have any loft conversion tips for us? Or any other building advice? Let us know, we’d love to hear from you.

Yep, it’s been too long! I’m already stressing about the amount of work and planning ahead of us. Cx
