Having reflected on our more or less successful list of planned projects for last year, it seemed only right, that we give ourselves another project list for the coming year. We tend to think of it as our virtual kick up the back side. It’s also a good way of keeping track of the things we’d like to accomplish.
These are our top 10 goals for 2014:
Yes, I know it was on last year list, but it is by far the biggest project we have planned for the house and it’ll probably take up most of our time, so it only seems fair to start the list of with this mammoth project.
#2 Garage Roof
Again, it was on last years list, but I think if we leave it any longer it may fall down on it’s own! The gable wall that we had rebuilt is still looking great and most of the woodwork isn’t looking too bad either. We’re planning on doing this job ourselves, so fingers crossed we get round to it this year.
#3 Sort Damp Cellar
Last year we already made some pretty big improvements in the cellar. We took down all of the ceiling, removed a wall and insulated the ceiling as much as possible (full reveal next week). One thing that we really need to sort is the damp issue. It’s already nowhere near as bad as it was when we first moved in, but could definitely still be improved. This will probably mean that we have to take up and then install a new floor and tank all of the walls.
#4 Main Bathroom
This is another one of the things from our 2013 list that we didn’t manage. Because of the way that our loft conversion is planned, we can’t really work on the bathroom before at least starting working on the loft. Another huge problem is that it’s currently the only bathroom & toilet in house, so we can’t really rip it out until we have another loo! Showering at the gym for a few days wouldn’t kill us, but not having a toilet may be a bit of pain.
#5 Repoint Back Of House
This really isn’t one of the most exciting projects ever, but it’s also one of the things that people – including us – tend to ignore for much to long. Our pointing on the back wall is quite badly worn. It’s not completely awful, but should probably be sorted sooner rather than later! You can see the huge difference between our neighbours new pointing and ours – which looks practically none existent.
#6 Sort Windows In Master Bedroom & Guest Bedroom
Our list for 2013 included replacing the windows in the hallway and bathroom. Annoyingly it’s another one of the projects that we can’t tackle until we start with our loft conversion. When buying the house, we knew that we’d have to replace most of the windows, so this year we’d like to replace a few more of them. It also seems such a shame to have almost completed our guest bedroom makeover and still have an old window.
#7 Install En-Suite Bathroom In Loft
It would be so amazing to have a nice bathroom and walk-in shower. Scrambling into the bath to shower has always been something I’ve hated, so this is a project that I’m particularly looking forward to.
#8 Runner On Staircase
Again, this is a project that we can’t complete until we’ve started working on the loft and, more importantly, have the second staircase installed. Then carpet will have to be laid in one piece and it’s also something we don’t really want to do until the majority of the really dirty building work has been completed.
#9 Install Underfloor heating in Dining Room and Kitchen
Since knocking down the wall between the kitchen and dining room, we’ve had no radiators in the back of the house. Needles to say, it’s rather chilly there. Our lovely new wood burning stove goes a long way to warming the space, but we really need a more permanent heat source, too. Because of what we’ve planned for the room, we’ve decided that underfloor heating would be the best option for us. We still have to do a bit of research, but the thought of having warm feet is soooo appealing!
#10 Secret Project
I know this is a bit mean, but we have one massive project planned for next year. We still need to sort a few things before we can share more details with you, but this is going to be huge!
Of course that’s not all we have planned, but those are probably the top 10 big projects that we’d like to complete. Life certainly doesn’t get boring around here!
Do you have a long list of projects you’d like to tackle this year? Do you tend to take on too many projects, too? Can you guess what our secret project is?
