Our office is probably the most finished room in the house. All we need to do is sort the lighting and strip and paint the door. The walls have already been plastered and painted, so it’s about time that we hang up some art. We have been planning to make a map with pins in the cities and countries we have visited and would like to visit for some time. That’s why I was really excited to find this print.
It’s the ideal size for the office wall and more importantly will fit in a standard size picture frame. As I couldn’t find a piece of cork the right size for the frame, so I bought some cheap place mats that I cut to size with a craft knife and stuck to the back of the picture frame.
I used some spray glue that I still had, but I assume that any other glue would work just as well. This is what the back of the frame looked like after sticking the cork together.
Then, using the spray glue, I coated the cork with glue and (with a bit of help from Jan) stuck the print onto the cork.
Now for the fun bit – choosing our next holiday destinations! We used map pins, in different colours to differentiate between places we have already visited and places we would like to go. All of the yellow pins are still on our wish list! It might take us a while to see them all!
And here is the result.
You probably noticed that the frame in one of the other pictures is black. It’s still the same frame; I just gave it a quick coat of paint to go with the white and blue colour theme in the office. All in all it cost less than £10 to make the map art. We love it, because it is so personal to us. There is one small problem though… When I bought the print, I checked the date on it and, although it says 2003 on it, the world map itself seems to be much older. There are quite a few countries on it, that don’t even exist anymore! Ups.
If you have any suggestions for our next travel destinations, let us know!

You need to come visit Ottawa, Canada. And St John’s, Canada as well. I think I saw either Vancouver or Victoria on that map with a pin in it (It was hard to tell) You can’t visit the west coast without visiting the east coast and without visiting the capital. We are friendly.

P.S. I am enjoying the blog immensely. You are very creative.

Hi Janet,
I think the pin is in Victoria. We’ve never been to Canada, so it seemed a good starting point. As soon as we have a free pin (all of the pins in the colour representing our wish list are in use) we’ll pin Ottawa too! It’s always great to have a holiday recommendation!
So glad you like the blog!
