It’s always difficult to narrow down and prioritise your projects when you have about a million ones on your to-do list but setting goals is the best way to actually stay on top of all of those things you’d like to do.
I’ve decided that 2019 is the year that we’ll get things done. I’m fed up of living in a semi-finished home so we’re going to give ourselves a big push to complete as many home improvements as possible.
It’s no big secret that we’re thinking about moving again but this time it would be nice to be able to leave a pretty and finished house behind for the next people to live here. I should say, that we’re in no big moving rush and it might (and probably will) take us years to get things sorted – although that’s not stopping my constantly looking at new potential homes.
Having said that, I’m still in a self-imposed rush to get things done so, here’s what we’re planning for 2019!
1. Pantry Makeover
We shared the mood board for this project a couple of weeks ago and it’s easily the project I’m most excited about starting in the coming year.
As well as improving our food storage, we’ll also be installing a wine fridge, new shelves and we’ll be giving the pantry door a complete overhaul, too.
Another reason that I’m so excited about this makeover is because it’ll include our first ever tiling project! I’m not sure how we’ve managed to dodge tiling for so long but it’s well overdue that we give it a go!
2. Bathroom Refresh
As we won’t be able to afford a full-on bathroom makeover just yet, we’ll be giving this room a temporary refresh.
Often small updates can make a big difference and I’m hoping that a few changes in here will make the bathroom a more welcoming and relaxing space to be in.
We’re planning on adding some more storage, painting the walls, stripping and repainting the doors and door frames as well as replacing the current washbasin.
This is the first project we’re aiming to get done, so we’ll hopefully be able to share some bathroom updates soon!
3. Complete New Guest Bathroom
One ‘proper’ makeover we have budgeted for is our guest bathroom which will be getting a full on, rip out everything and start from scratch renovation.
A few things are still uncertain and we’re waiting to hear back on decisions regarding the drainage in our building which is why I’m not exactly sure when we’ll be able to start work in here. It’s all really annoying but hopefully, we’ll know more by the end of January.
What we do know is that we’ll be replacing everything and that we’ll be installing a shower. Yep, we’ll be squeezing a shower into this tiny space (if we can).
We’ll share more details of in the coming weeks. It may be the smallest room in our apartment but there are going to be big changes.
4. Living Room Makeover
If you follow us on Instagram you will probably already have seen a few glimpses of our freshly painted living room.
For now, we’ve just plonked all of our things back in the room but there’s still a way to go before we can call this room finished – not least because I’m not sure that I like the colour we’ve painted it!
We already have a new sideboard (I’ll share the trauma of buying it as soon as I’m over it) but we still need more art, some kind of TV storage solution, a rug and a new coffee table. We also finally need to work out how we’d like to upholster our new sofa, build a ceiling lamp and, in general, add more lighting.
Not much to do then…
5. Overhaul All Windows
Admittedly, sorting our windows really isn’t a project I’m looking forward to, especially as we have 68 of them. I know that I’ll enjoy the first window and then I’ll probably find the rest mind-numbingly boring.
The wintery weather has however given us a rather harsh reminder that it’s a job that really needs to be done sooner rather than later!
So, five big projects are doable, right? I have a weird feeling I’d better get a move on if I want to get anywhere close to completing our home improvement goals. Even if it only takes me half a day to restore each window, it’ll take me whopping 34 full days just for them. Now that sounds like an exciting month, doesn’t it?! Luckily some of our other projects are a bit more fun!
What do you have planned for 2019? Do you have any home improvements planned? Do you have anything more exciting planned than restoring dozens of windows?
I’m not actually worried about that.
Thank you, Diane! We have some really exciting projects coming up, too!

Hmm… I’m worried this blog is becomming just another listicle generator
Sorry you feel that way, Gerry. Although you may be exaggerating slightly as we only share 2 to 3 project lists a year.
