We have so much planned for 2013, it already seems almost impossible to achieve everything. We also have a few major things in the pipeline that we hope to be able to share with you soon! There are still a few things to sort beforehand, but as always you’ll be the first to know!
For now, these are our top 10 big goals for this year
#1 Loft conversion
#2 Install a wood burner or fireplace in the dining room
I’ve lost count of the times we’ve moaned about how cold our house it. It definitely doesn’t help that our hallway and dining room don’t have radiators. The original Edwardian fireplace that’s in the dining room at the moment is purely decorative and not installed properly. We’d love to replace it with a wood burning stove that will heat the back of the house.
#3 Replace the windows in the hall and bathroom
Sticking with the theme of heating the house more efficiently, we’d like to replace the windows on the first floor hallway landing and in the bathroom. The windows are quite old, have been very poorly fitted and worst of all, the double glazing units have blown so that the insulating properties are pretty much none existent.
# 4 Finish staircase
Yep, it’s still not finished. You can read about our progress here and here. There are areas that still need sanding and painting, we’ve been thinking about adding paneling along the side of the staircase and everything still needs sanding with fine sandpaper in order to receive the final coat of paint. We’ve joined the DIY Duel with Sarah @ Ugly Duckling House, Kit @ DIY Diva, Micha @ Little Old House and Ann @ Our Handmade Home, so we’d better get a move on!
#5 Rebuild our garden wall
As you all know we had our garden gate posts rebuilt last year. You can read about it here. Whilst they are great, the rest of our garden wall is looking even worse. We hope to sort it sometime this year.
#6 Install new water mains
Our water pressure is extremely poor. If and when we do manage to finally convert our loft, we’ll definitely need more pressure, as we are planning an en-suite bathroom up there. There’s nothing worse than a shower that just trickles! You can see that our stopcock is also desperately in need of being replaced.
#7 Install a new main bathroom
If installing a new en-suite bathroom in the loft wasn’t enough, we’d like to completely replace our current main bathroom. Except for our quick and cheap makeover (you can read about it here) we haven’t been able to do much to it, as it’s the only bathroom and toilet in the house.
#8 Sort bedroom 4
For such a small room it needs a ridiculous amount of work. The whole back wall is completely wet due to your leaky chimney at the back of the house (which will hopefully be sorted when we convert the loft). The electrics need sorting, the boiler which for some bizarre reason is in the bedroom needs to be moved, and we need a new radiator and new ceiling. When that’s all done, the room will then need replastering.
#9 Sort Bedroom 2
This bedroom doesn’t need quite as much work as bedroom 4. As with every room in the house it needs decorating and possibly plastering (we haven’t removed the wallpaper yet). It also needs a new radiator, new electrics and new flooring.
#10 Garage Roof
We already had the garage gable wall sorted last year (you can read about it here), but the garage is still in need of a lot of TLC. The main thing that needs sorting is the roof. At the moment there are asbestos tiles more or less covering it and most of the timber is rotten or missing.
Do you have any projects planned for 2013? Do you think we’re mad taking on so much? If you do, you should probably avoid seeing the rest of our To-Do list!
