A couple of weeks ago we shared the huge news that we’ll be opening an Airbnb!
We’re so excited about this new adventure but we still have a lot of updates to do to our guest bedroom before we can even think about calling it guest ready.
The room has already gone through a huge floor sanding transformation but there’s still a lot more to do and we’re sharing our Airbnb plans with you!
It’s really important to us to be the best hosts we possibly can and creating a luxury bedroom retreat for our guests is the first step in making people feel welcome.
We already shared a mood board for this room a while ago and, although our plans have changed slightly, the overall feel I’d like to achieve is still the same.
We’ve even already purchased some of the items on the mood board like the bedside pendant lamps, the rug (although I love it so much that I’ve decided to keep that in our bedroom) and some of the art but there’s still a long way to go before it’s the welcoming guest bedroom we’re aiming for.
Because I’d like this room to be perfect I’m inevitably being super detailed and picky. So much so that my bedroom to-do list is already 4 pages long! Admittedly it’s a bit mad considering it’s already a usable room – we even have family staying with us at the moment!
Another reason that we’d like this room to be comfortable, inviting and functional is that we won’t be allowing access to the kitchen or any other part of the apartment (other than the bathrooms of course!). This will inevitably mean that everything our guests could possibly want or need has to be in this room.
As you can see, we still have a long way to go!
I’m still trying to find an affordable armchair and ottoman that I like (any suggestions would be more than welcome!) as we currently don’t really have a space for people to sit and relax which I think is vital after a long day of sightseeing.
Our ‘desk’ is currently undergoing a makeover (we’ll share the DIY guide and before & after pics as soon as I’ve finished) and we’ve already bought 20l of emulsion to paint the walls and ceiling.
One of the changes I’m most excited about (other than getting some lovely luxurious curtains) is adding the panelling. I think it’ll give the whole room a really sophisticated and elegant look. I’ve already planned the layout of the panelling and we’ve even chosen the moulding but frustratingly we can’t install it until our electrician has carried out some improvement works. There’s no point in having a lovely room if nothing actually works!
I’ve already given our existing bed an update which turned out so much better than I’d imagined (more on that, soon) but ultimately, I would like to replace it (I absolutely love art deco style one). As we’re not even sure if we’ll like being Airbnb hosts at the moment there seems little point in spending a lot of money on things we don’t really have to.
In addition to all of the bigger updates, we also have a loooong list of small additions and changes we’d like to make.
We’ll obviously be adding things like coffee and tea making facilities but we’d also like to include a few more personal touches and the odd surprise for our guests, too.
We’d love to know if you have any suggestions for our guest room? What do you think of our Airbnb plans? Have we gone completely mad? What do you expect from an Airbnb? What amenities are a must and what ones would make your stay extra special?
