Before restoring our office, we had nowhere to store all of our folders and paperwork. It got to the point where we couldn’t find anything! That’s part of the reason we decided to tackle this room very early on and get to grips with our office organization.
You can see lots of our folders on the windowsill and even more on the floor.
For a long while, even after restoring the office, we still kept the folders on the floor, because we couldn’t find any shelves that we like.
Eventually, and maybe partly out of desperation, we eventually went out and bought a version of this Ivar unit at Ikea.
It’s nice to have a cupboard as well as shelves. We can store lots of our things in there, like printer paper, batteries and our camera stuff, without it being permanently on display.
To go with the white and blue theme, I decided to paint the shelves and cupboards, as well as the magazine holders white. The dark blue walls should hopefully contrast nicely with the white shelves. All in all, it took about three coats of paint to get the wood completely white.
And here is the result.
I tend to be a really organised person, and the mess everywhere was driving me mad. It makes me so happy (yes, I know it’s really sad) to work in a more organized room and find everything I am looking for. It might not be the most creative idea ever, but it works well.
