It’s was my lovely nephew Liam’s christening last weekend and as part of his present I decided to paint a personalised picture for him. About two years ago we gave his big brother Denny this picture for his Christening:
It is cross stitched and took me forever. So this time I decided on a more simple watercolour painting. As I couldn’t find a picture frame in a fun colour that I liked I decided to attempt painting one. As my previous attempts of painting frames didn’t turn out as smooth and even as I would have liked, I decided to try spray painting this one.
As the picture is quite plain, I decided to choose a frame with a chunky edge to balance it out.
I removed the glass and back panel and then, probably ignoring all rules of spray painting, didn’t bother to sand the frame. Because of the fumes from the spray paint, I went outside to and applied about 3-4 coats of paint.
The spray paint gives a lovely even finish. Not sanding the frame, hasn’t affected the finish at all. And here is the finished picture already up on his bedroom wall.
The red colour of the frame goes well with the red paint in the picture and luckily also goes with the other colours in his bedroom, too. We will have to wait until he is a bit older to see if he likes his personalised artwork.
