As well as currently sorting our cellar and renovating our fourth bedroom, we’re also trying to get our garden into slightly better shape before summer.
Improving it has been on our list since we moved in, but projects in the house always seemed to be more of a priority. Now that the first rays of sunshine finally seem to be making an appearance, it’s jumped back to the top of our priority list.

We have such a long list of projects to tackle that it’s hard to even know where to start. The garden is still mostly covered in asphalt, there are almost no plants or greenery and we don’t even have a garden gate!

But it’s not all bad. We’ve already replaced the garage roof and now, we have is some lovely new outdoor lighting, too!

We obviously still have a long way to go, but it’s a huge step forward in making the garden more inviting – and being able to see where we’re going is definitely a bonus, too!
The lamps (these are the outdoor lights we have) were really easy to attach and it probably only took us about half an hour to get all three of them (there’s two on the garage and one on the house) installed.

You only need to drill two small holes to attach the inner box, then the lamp itself just slots over it.

As easy as they were to attach, we weren’t too sure that we’d fitted them at the same height as each other. But after a bit of measuring (and a few choice words) we decided that they were right. I guess the lesson is to always measure a few times and be sure before you drill holes into your garage wall.

Lighting is so important when creating a space and we think that these contemporary stainless steel lamps really finish the garage off (yes, we still need to remove the ugly patch of paint).

We’d eventually love to have a patio area in front of the garage and it’ll be lovely to spend warm summer evenings sitting in the garden with a nice glass of wine under the glow of our new lamps
Do you also think that lighting finished off a space? Do have outdoor lighting? We’re still unsure about designing our garden – any suggestions?
