Our (more or less successful) 2014 Projects

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
As always around this time of year, we start to look ahead at our goals and plans for the next 12 months. For us, this is also a great time to check what boxes we’ve ticked sofar and see how successful (or not) we were on our list of planned projects for the previous year. Our list for 2014 was ambitious to say the least and although we managed to accomplish a lot, ticking boxes on our list of projects didn’t turn out to be quite as successful.

#1 Loft Conversion

Loft Conversion

Big No! Still not even started. We’re currently in discussions with our builder and looks like it will hopefully start in May. Fingers crossed.

#2 Garage Roof

Replacing A Garage Roof

Yep, it’s finished! Still can’t believe that we did this project ourselves. We’ve received so many compliments from friend and neighbours. Even our builders have complimented us on the job and said that they’d thought it had been done by professionals!

#3 Sort Damp Cellar

Insulating a Cellar Ceiling

Fail! We have managed to insulate the ceiling, but haven’t even started on any dampproofing yet. We’ve done a bit of research and it is something that’s high on our priority list.

#4 Main Bathroom

Bathroom

Not even started! This is one project that depends on our loft conversion finally happening. We can’t sort the main bathroom until we’ve done #7 – en-suite in the loft. Sure, we could shower at the gym for a few days, but not having a toilet might be a bit of an issue.

#5 Repoint Back Of House

Our Projects for 2015

Well,… no. We have had the chimney taken down in preperation for for the loft conversion, but will have the house repointed when the scaffolding is up for the loft.

#6 Sort New Windows In Master Bedroom & Guest Bedroom

Stained Glass Window Replacement

Yay! A big tick here! We love our new windows. They make the house warmer, quieter and look goreous with the lovely stained glass. What more could you want?

#7 Install En-Suite Bathroom In Loft

En-Suite

Nope. With no dormer and no loft conversion in sight, sadly there’s no fancy en-suite in sight yet.

#8 Runner On Staircase

Runner On Staircase

Done, and it still looks great. We’re so happy that we finally managed to finish off the staircase by adding a stripy runner. Originally we wanted to wait until the staircase to the loft was installed, but we really go sick of waiting and changed our plans slightly (we’re not having one continuous runner up both staircases) so finally had a runner fitted. We love it and think that it really finished off the staircase.

#9 Install Underfloor Heating In Dining Room And Kitchen

New Radiator

Kind Of. After lots of back and forth, we finally decided to install a radiator and no underfloor heating. We’ll be sharing details on that soon.

#10 Secret Project

Top Secret Project

Not a chance. We desperately want to share our plans with you, but there are a few planning issues that need resolving before we can spill the beans. We’ll of course share everything as soon as we can!

Looking back it kind of feels like – what on earth did we do all year?! Although we did manage to tick a few boxes, we’re hoping that this year will be slightly more successful.

Did you manage to achieve any of your goals for last year? Did you carry out any home improvement? Can you guess what you secret project is?

I think you’ve done well. House renovations are ‘never’ easy and as you can sometimes come across ‘more’ that needs doing as you go along!! The prob is, you still want to have a life whist doing it all. I think what you’ve done so far looks great and can’t wait to see how you get on over the coming months. Good luck :O)

That’s so kind, thanks! You’re right about wanting a life – we definitely started to regain a bit of control last year and even went on our first proper holiday since buying our home over 4 years ago! As much as we’d like to, I guess you just can’t do everything…

You’ve still achieved a massive amount in a year though! I ticked two projects off my list, a new roof and a rewire all the other projects (the ones I’m doing myself rather than getting the professionals in) are in various states of either being planned or have been started and then just… left. I haven’t actually finished one yet…
Really not sure what I did do in 2014 apart from be overly ambitious. Looking forward to hearing about the secret project is!

Thanks Laura! We’re all guilty of leaving projects when the novelty wears off. Can’t wait to share the secret project, we’re really not good at keeping secrets ;)

Thanks Jessica! That makes me feel a bit better ;). I’m not saying we didn’t manage a lot, but it would have been so nice to be able to finally start work in the loft. There are just so many jobs that depend on it being finished, that we’re starting to feel like we’re going round in circles. Fingers crossed that it starts soon!
