We’ve worked hard all morning to be able to bring you an update on our garden wall.
Progress is slow and now it’s even slower, as the further down the wall we get, the harder it is to loosen the bricks. Because they are much harder to loosen, more mortar is sticking to them, which means it’s taking considerably longer to clean them, too.
You can probably guess, that we are sick of it by now. It was almost fun for the first 100 bricks or so, now it’s just tedious. At least we are starting to see some progress.
The wall is almost down to the plinth now and we have four neat stacks of cleaned bricks in our garden. We’ve also cleaned a load of the coping bricks.
We’ve already spoken to our builder who will be rebuilding the wall for us. We don’t have a definite date yet, but hope to have everything finished as soon as possible. Now that the sun is finally starting to make an appearance, it would be great to actually be able to use the garden!
Before even starting the work, we know that we would have to pay for someone to rebuild the wall, it’s something we don’t feel confident doing ourselves. Have you ever built a wall? Is it easier that it looks? Do you think we should attempt do rebuild it ourselves?

I know this is easy for me to say from half way around the world and it won’t be my back that aches like there is no tomorrow but…..You could and should totally build that wall yourselves! I was so impressed by the water line project (that was ballsy move), building a wall pales in comparison, especially because you already have a built footing to work off. There are, as with most projects, tons of how to videos on youtube for this.
Go for it!

Thanks for your vote of confidence Caitlin – not too sure we share it though! I’ll definitely be checking out every how to video that I can find. We haven’t actually built the footing (which is the bit I’m most worried about), it looks like it on the pictures, but it’s just the bit we’ve not taken down yet.
We’ve decided that we’ll be building the fence ourselves, so I’d better get youtubing that, too! ;-)

Since the plumber flooded my house last week, I’m beginning to wonder if I wouldn’t have done better by myself!!!

Omg! Hope everything is okay!
Sometimes, after paying for someone to do a job that we think we can’t do ourselves, it’s really surprising how and easy some things are.
I just worry about things going wrong – like flooding the house…
