With Christmas only 18 days away it’s time to get some serious shopping done!
If you’re anything like us you’ll have a ridiculously long to-do list around this time of year so we’ve put together a gift guide to share our ideas on the perfect gifts for new homeowners which will hopefully give you some ideas for Christmas time gift giving.
Moving into a new home can be a bit overwhelming, especially when it’s your first one, so anything that can make life just a little easier has got to be a good thing! These are all gifts that we would have loved to receive when we purchased our first home (we actually own most of them now) and they all help make life easier or more fun in some way!
One of the biggest lessons we learned during renovating our home is that it’s important to take breaks from DIYing. What better way to treat yourself to something delicious than with these gorgeous bar tools? Yes, they may not be the most important thing to own when you’ve just moved into a best pizza dough recipe new home but they’re just too pretty to not include in our gift guide and they’ve definitely made it onto my Christmas wishlist for this year!
A good nights sleep is always important and it’s especially important when you’re renovating a house. A good quality mattress is a big investment but even little things like a good quality duvet or these memory foam pillows can make a huge difference. (You can read the review of our fab new memory foam pillows here.)
It’s no secret that we often tend to live in chaos, especially when we’re tackling yet another big DIY project. We often misplace things but the one thing you really don’t want to lose are your keys!
We have a magnetic keyboard that we can throw our keys against to always keep them together but I love this clever family keyboard, too!
Spending a little extra on good quality paint brushes is definitely an investment worth making. We still have the same set of Purdy brushes that we bought when we first moved into our house and we’ve used them to paint everything! Even after 6 years of regular use, they’re still as good as they were on the first day we got them!
A cordless drill is probably the first tool we ever owned and it’s still the power tool we use the most. It’s seriously a must have for any homeowner!
We now have this one from the Ryobi One+ series. They’re great tools and they’re especially good if you’re just starting out as they have a really clever system where you use the same battery for all power tools. This means that you can keep your costs down when you add to your power tool collection as you don’t need to pay extra for tools that include batteries and chargers.
Life can’t just be full of cocktails and wine. Even if you’re not taking on a full-on renovation it’s almost inevitable that you’ll need a pick me up every now and then. These pretty Pantone espresso cups definitely make our coffee breaks more colourful. (Our tip: If you use Nespresso coffee a lungo sized coffee fits perfectly into the cup, too).
Take a break from DIYing, have some friends over and enjoy your new home! It sometimes felt like all we lived off was pizza and wine, especially when there were lots of late-night DIY projects going on!
We love this clever gift set which is called the Entertainer. Pizza Dough recipes with yeast It’s perfect as it has both a pizza cutter and a bottle opener included. It would definitely make a perfect gift and it comes in a pretty gift box, too!
Making memories in your home has got to be one of the most fun parts of living somewhere new. So much happened during the time we lived in our house in Manchester – we made some amazing friends, had fun parties and in our case documented what felt like about a million DIY projects.
Our trusted camera that we use to take all of our pictures documenting our home and lives (except for the odd ones that creep in from our mobiles) is easily one of the most used items we own. You may not end up taking tens of thousands of photos (I stopped counting after about 28000) but we don’t know what I’d do without it.
It’s almost inevitable that you’ll need a ladder at some point – even if it’s only for hanging pictures, fitting lamps or painting your walls. We spent a little extra on this ladder that also comes with a platform which is really handy when you have a lot of painting to do or need to spend a lot of time in hard to reach places.
Toolbox & Tools
There’s an endless list of other tools and supplies that you can purchase (you’ll probably never use most of them) but every homeowner should own a basic set.
The must-have basics should include a set of screwdrivers, a hammer, pliers and a tape measure. A spirit level would be a great addition, too. (You can see our guide to must-have beginner tools here) To keep all of your tools organised what better way than this fun toolbox! I love the pink one but don’t worry, it’s available in other colours, too!
