When we told you about repainting our garage door, I’m sure you all noticed the state of the surrounding woodwork. The paint is flaking everywhere, parts of the timber have disintegrated or are completely missing – the garage is literally falling to pieces. We know that we need to completely replace the garage roof, but at the moment this isn’t a priority and to keep the garage standing for a little while longer, we are just patching it up.
This is the state of the timber around the gable. Parts are rotten and the fascia on the left is completely missing.
We started by scraping away the flaking and loose paint.
Then, after cleaning the area, we applied 2-3 coats of paint.
It immediately makes such a difference.
After just a few coats of paint, it looks so much better! It’s a shame that our house and garage weren’t maintained for such a long time. All it would have needed was cleaning and painting now and then, but because nothing was ever done, it needs almost completely rebuilding.
Here are the side by side before and after pictures for you.
We know that our garage update is still a long way of completion. Amongst other things, we still haven’t quite finished the painting because, as usual, it started raining. You can see, that the garage door also isn’t finished. It’s still quite patchy and needs at least another coat of paint. We had originally planned renewing the roof this summer, but the weather hast been so miserable, that we just haven’t had a chance to start the works.
