Did you all have a fab Christmas?
Jan and I had the most lovely time relaxing in our new apartment not doing much other than eating and drinking. There are definitely worse ways to spend Christmas!
With the new year just around the corner, we’re starting to look ahead to the future but we also like to reflect on what projects we completed in in the last months, too. After all, there’s nothing more motivating than seeing just how far you’ve come.
Sanding our floors was easily the biggest (and also most expensive) change we made to our apartment.
It was such an epic task that we even had to split it into two parts!
Two full weeks of 12 hour days, a case of tendonitis and three broken machines (still not sure what happened there!) our floors now look amazing!
Walls, doors, skirting and radiators. We love the colour so much that we really couldn’t stop ourselves!
We’ve still not shared a full reveal of the bedroom as, for once, we’d like to actually finish a room before sharing the transformation. Next up on our list of projects for this room is a new DIY headboard. I’m hoping that we’ll manage to get started in the next couple of days so hopefully, we’ll be able to share everything soon!
I loved this project as it was so quick and easy!
We don’t have much outdoor space (although it’s not bad considering we’re living in the middle of Berlin) so we really want to make the most of it.
We treated the decking , painted the balustrade and planted too many new plants that there’s just enough space for us to sit. Exactly how we wanted it to be!
4. DIY Herringbone Desk
We’ll (hopefully) be sharing the reveal of our new desk in our guest bedroom next week but we love how it turned out so much that I couldn’t not include it on our list of favourite projects.
For now, we’re just sharing a sneaky preview. Given that we made it out of supplies we already had lying around we’re super happy with the result!
5. Lamp Dining Room
Have you already seen our dining room lamp?
It’s a DIY copy of a well-known designer lamp (which is why we won’t be sharing a guide – boo!) but I think it looks amazing which is why I had to include it on the list. Isn’t it amazing what you can make out of a pop-up tent, some PTFE tape and a can of spray paint?
Who knew that painting light switches is possible?!
It’s so effective, cheap and easy – basically a perfect DIY project. It makes even the plainest sockets look really bespoke and way more expensive than they really are.
We painted ours about two months ago and there’s still not a single scratch or mark on them.
Strictly speaking, this isn’t a home improvement DIY project but I love the Berlin-themed calendar that we made for next year.
Living in a new city has definitely influenced us and this is definitely one of my favourite free printables that we’ve ever shared here on the blog!
Admittedly, this year has been spent doing a lot of small updates and improvements rather than the big full-on projects we’d like. Given that we only moved in the middle of March, it’s not really bad going, though!
We already have so many projects planned for the year ahead (including finally opening our Airbnb!) and I can’t wait to get stuck in and start working on improving our home!
What were your favourite projects of 2017? Did you manage to achieve everything you wanted? Or did you fall a bit short like we did? Do you have any big plans for 2018?
