Did you see our DIY roll notepad last week when we shared our new DIY herringbone desk?
I love to be organised and with so many DIY projects to keep track of it’s imperative that we try to stay on top the day to day tasks.
The idea isn’t new and there are loads of similar projects in the world of Pinterest but sometimes the easiest ideas are the best so we couldn’t resist having a try at making our own DIY notepad on a roll!
This is a super easy DIY and, best of all, it only takes 5 minutes to make!
This is what you will need to make a DIY notepad on a roll:
- Piece of plywood approximately 9 x 100 x 250 mm
- 80mm till roll
- 2 large rubber bands
- 4 pins or nails
- Ruler
- 120 grit sandpaper
- Optional: Paint & paintbrush
This is how to make DIY roll notepad:
1. Cut & Sand.
We cut the plywood to size ourselves with a circular saw but you could just as well get it cut at a DIY store when you purchase the wood. Sand the edges thoroughly – you don’t want to risk getting any splinters!
2. Paint.
As usual, I couldn’t resist adding a bit of colour to our project which is why I painted the edge with some acrylic paint.
This is, of course, totally optional but it’s a great way to personalise it and to get it to match your decor, too.
3. Add Pins.
Next, stick the pins or nails into the side of the plywood base.
The first nail should be about 1cm from the top edge and the second nail should be about 7cm from the top edge of the plywood board.
Make sure to push the nails in firmly but allow them to stick out enough so that you have enough space to wrap the elastic band around them.
4. Attach Paper Roll.
Insert a rubber band through the centre of the till roll and wrap each end around the nails on the side of the base.
Then push the pins further into the board so that the elastic band is firmly secured.
5. Secure.
Finally, start to roll out the beginning of the paper and secure it at the bottom of the base board with the second elastic band.
That’s all there is to it! It really is one of the easiest and quickest DIY projects we’ve ever shared!
We’re planning on keeping our DIY roll notepad in our new Airbnb guest room which is very slowly starting to take shape. Hopefully, our guests will find it useful – although I admit that I’m very tempted to stick a magnet to the back of it and stick it on our fridge.
Oh, and if you like your new diy herringbone desk you can see how we built it here.
How do you stay organised? Are you a list keeper, too? Does your to-do list seem to get longer every time you look at it, too? Do you have any tips on staying organised, too?
