The room has come on so much since we first moved in and, whilst most of the major building work has been completed, the room is definitely lacking personal touches. Sometimes we concentrate so much on building work that we forget to add the personal things that make a house a home.
The two frames over our bed are a first attempt to personalise the room. The only problem is that they’ve been there for months – without anything with them.
Well, enough is enough. We have finally found something to fill them with! While framing our new art, we decided to add a new photo mount to the frames.
Whilst we love our Ikea Fjällsta frame, we don’t like the mount that comes with it. The proportions just seem wrong.
We decided to choose a mount that has a wider edge so that there is more distance between the picture and the frame. Then all that’s left to do is position the artwork and put the frame back together again.
And here’s the result.
The pictures are actually just some wrapping paper that we bought for a different project and had left over.
The images on the wrapping paper are a selection of Penguin book covers. They seem to be very popular art at the moment and Penguin book cover art is definitely better than having empty frames!
It’s weird how you get used to things and after staring at the empty frames night after night for such a long time, we hardly even noticed them anymore.
Adding some art is quick, cheap and easy thing to do, but makes such a difference to the feel of the room. Together with the capiz chandelier that we added a few weeks ago (you can read about it here) the room is actually starting to feel finished.
Have you recently updated some artwork? Or have you ever made cheap art out of something?
