Christmas is only a week away now and whilst we have already exchanged most gifts (we’re not mad, you can read about it here), we couldn’t resist treating ourselves to a little pre-Christmas gift. And here it is on our guest bedroom wall!
As you all know, we’re slowly nearing completion of our guest bedroom makeover. We still have a few little things – like a new window – to finish off, but we can’t help ourselves and have already started to add some the finishing touches.
For us, adding art is something that really makes a house a home and these three pictures in our guest bedroom could hardly be more personal.
We already shared the watercolour image of our house that I painted along with the lovely blue painting that was given to us by my nephews (who are only 4 and 2).
Our newest addition is the little quilled owl picture.
I made it for my grandparents when I was about 7 and for as long as I can remember it was on the sideboard their hallway – squashed into a really ugly frame.
Then later, it was hidden in a cupboard for years and years. Now, after having it framed, it looks perfect on our bedroom wall.
Having it professionally framed was definitely the right choice. The double mount works perfectly with the quilled 3D paper. Although all other frames in the room are white (we even went to the effort of spraying them all the same shade of white), we’re really glad that we went with a brown one for this picture.
It accentuates the brown tones of the owls wings and because it’s the only brown frame in the room, it makes it stand out even more. Yes, of course the owl isn’t perfect, but it’s definitely one of my favourite pieces of art in the house.
Have you ever tried quilling? Do you have any art around the house that you’ve made yourself? Have you displayed any art that you made as a child in your home?
