Album Memory Art

As you might have already guessed from a few of our previous posts – we both love to travel (We recently shared our trips to Berlin and Tenerife with you).

If you’re anything like us, I’m sure you also take a ridiculous amount of photos and collect all sorts of weird memorabilia along the way.

Photo Album

After each trip we try to make a dedicated photo album. As it’s not just the fancy and exotic places with white sandy beaches that we travel to, we also like to undertake as many local day trips as possible.

Photo Album

Obviously the small trips aren’t enough to fill a whole book with, so we’ve started a more scrapbook style album that we add to continuously.

Photo Album

This style of album works great for us, as it allows us to not only keep the pictures we’ve taken, but also little objects like beermats, tickets and maps that we’ve collected along the way.

Photo Album

We also try to add to the album regularly, so that we don’t have a huge and overwhelming amount of photos to sort and organise. A page here and there isn’t much work compared to the hours it would take to make an album from scratch.

Photo Album

It great to have the photo albums on the shelf and ready to hand. It makes it really easy to just grab hold of one and reminisce about some of the fantastic places we’ve been lucky enough to visit. It’s certainly much more fun than trawling through hundreds of photos on the computer!

Do you also keep photo albums of your trips and outings? Or do you have another way of storing or displaying your holiday memorabilia?

I love these! I would like to do something similar for High School Track Coach’s gifts and I was wondering where you got the black books or if you made them? Thanks! :)

Thanks Katie! I bought them ages ago at a store in Germany. I’m not sure it’s much help to you, but these are the ones we have.
Good luck with your book, I’m sure they’d make a great gift!

    Hi,
Can you tell me where you found those scrapbooks and also what you use as adhesive. Also, is there any concern of your photos fading? I know old school photo albums have the paper in between each page, but what can you do to preserve the photos in a scrapbook?
I’ve been trying to come up with something like this that is easily maintained, personalized, not an online made photo book, etc. I hope I can get this started!!

      Hi Kristina,
I’d not even thought about fading until you mentioned it, but we’ve had some of the first books for around 8 years and the photos haven’t faded a bit, so it doesn’t seem to be much of a problem. To stick the photos in place we just used standard double-sided photo mounting squares that comes in rolls with a few hundred of little sticky squares.
We don’t have paper between the photo pages, but it is something that I’d probably recommend. We have a few images in the books that we printed with our home ink-jet printer and, when the book is folded together, they tend to stick to each other and some of the ink rips off. It doesn’t happen on the pictures that we had printed though.
We bought the photo albums in an art shop in Germany, but they don’t seem to stock it anymore. But you should be able to pick up something similar.
We do actually still maintain our books, as it’s so quick and easy. For us, it’s the only way we seem to be able to stay on top of things.
      Good Luck!

I love, actually respect, that you’re doing something non-digital. My grandfather documented his life and travels in albums that are now treasures. Can’t say that I’m following in his footsteps….everything is digital for me now and I love the instantaneousness of Instagram. Plus all my old boxes of photos from the nineties are a bit of a pain to store!

Thanks Caitlin! It must be so great to be able see your grandfathers experiences, I’m very envious! I have to admit that most things are digital for us, too and the books actually only show a very small selection of the pictures we actually take. I love Instagram and the way the snapshots seem to show a pretty complete story of your life – even if in a very random way! (You can follow us here: https://www.instagram.com/littlehouseonthecorner/

I like that idea, and the black paper background is perfect to show off pictures!

Thanks! We always take loads of pictures and it’s just nice to have at least some of them together in one place.
