Even if some of our recent projects haven’t gone quite to plan lately, we’re still thinking ahead to how we might use our fourth bedroom if and when some of the work is finally complete. Yes, it seems a long while a way, but it’s nice to work on something a bit prettier than our dirty cellar and dodgy plumbing for a while.
Up till now, we haven’t really done anything to the room. We removed the carpet along with most of the others in the house before moving in and all that we’ve done since then is to strip the wallpaper and very recently had a new radiator under the window installed.
Since then we’ve really only used the room as storage. Now that the room is finally cleared out I can’t help thinking ahead to what it could be – even if my thoughts are probably slightly premature.
As always, there are a lot of things that will need sorting before we can start thinking about decorating and adding the final touches. The electrics are first on our list of jobs to tackle, as the light switch is in a really annoying and impractical position behind the door.
Then when they are finished, we can start to tackle some of the other things on our long list.
- Replace the window
- Add a window sill and trim around the window
- Make some curtains
- Strip, sand and paint the door
- Finish stripping wallpaper
- Sort the electrics and move light switch
- Move the boiler
- Fill the gap in the wall behind the boiler
- Strip, sand and paint skirting
- Sort damp on back wall
- Replace the ceiling
- Replaster the whole room
- Strip and Paint Skirting
- Repair floor
- Add floor covering
- Paint and decorate everything
- Sort flue ventilation
- Source furniture including a bed, side table,…
Ultimately it would be nice to use this room as a kind of craft room/additional guest bedroom. It would be so nice to have a dedicated room to work on our crafty projects. As much as we love our little office it’s a really not big enough for craft projects as well as our day to day paperwork and blogging. Currently, when my crafty urges happen, they kind of take over the house, so a dedicated room would be in everyone’s interests!
I know we’re still a really long way off finishing the room, but as always any suggestions to finishes and colours are more than welcome?
