Okay, you’ve seen our bedroom, office, bathroom and living room makeover posts, so we thought is only fair to show you what we’ve been up to outside. Amongst what seems to be about a million hours of removing weeds, we also found the time to paint our garage door. Since moving in about two years ago, we haven’t done any work to the garage. As it was in a bit of a sad state when we moved in, it is in an even more miserable state now. All of the woodwork needs replacing, the gable walls are falling down and the roof tiles are made of asbestos.
We decided to make a start on the most straight forward part of the garage restoration project – the garage door. This is what the door looks like at the moment.
As you can see, the paint is flaking all over.
So, on one of the very few dry days this year, I decided to make a start on repainting the garage door. I removed as much of the flaky paint as possible and then cleaned the door with sugar soap. This is what the door looked like after about two hours of scraping and cleaning.
I decided to use an all-in-one paint, so that I didn’t need to prime the door first. This is the result so far.
I admit that it doesn’t look much better than before. This is partly because I ran out of paint. Yes, I know, not exactly organized. To be fair, it didn’t cover as well as well as I had expected. Anyway, we have ordered some more paint and will give you an update, as soon as it is dry enough for us to finish the job. We have also made a start on painting the timber around the sides of the door and on the gable. As always we will keep you posted on our progress.

i think that you have done a great job there. Yeah, you say you ran out of paint and that’s easily recitfied but in my humble opinion – that looks a whole lot better. Doors that look unloved are an easier target for thieves, so keeping your garage door looking great cosmetically is also a proven form of security.
Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing the update.
