A few days ago we told you about our master bedroom makeover. As part of our improvement efforts, we also decided to give the sideboard a bit of a face lift. I had painted it years ago, but it was quite dirty and had gone slightly yellow. In fact, I didn’t realise how yellow it had become until I started to apply the first coat of paint. Even after the first few brush strokes you can see the difference.
The side of the cupboard looked even worse. I’m not sure why, but I assume that it faded in the sun.
As we want to keep the texture and pattern of the wood visible, we decided to use a glaze (made of linseed oil and pigment) instead of our usual white eggshell paint. I applied two coats of paint and was so lazy, that I didn’t even bother to remove the drawers.
It will probably need freshening up again in a year or two, but for now it’s looking okay. We are thinking that we would like a different unit in that spot anyway. Maybe something a bit higher to look like this?
Not too sure yet. What do you think?
